Braces were developed in France in the late 1800's. Aligners were developed at Stanford University in California in 1997. A lot can change in 100 years. Braces consist of stainless steel or ceramic brackets that are glued or bonded to your teeth. They are adjusted by hand by bending stainless steel or nickel titanium wire in order to move teeth into position. Aligners are single, scientifically developed laminated polyurethane with memory that returns to its form so it is accurate to 1/10 of a mm. The teeth movements are computer designed using data from thousands of patients and are built into the aligners - that's why you wear each aligner for 3 weeks and move to the next one.
Speed And Convenience
Braces are adjusted by hand and require you to visit the dentist once a month for up to 60 months. Plus brackets or wires can pop out requiring more visits.Â
Alina Aligners are computer designed and you will receive 3-4 sets at a time so all you need to do is put on the next set after 3 weeks. On average, you will be done in 14.5 months and will only need to visit the dentist 3-4 times. Thats a huge time savings...especially in traffic.
